Welcome to our Church

The church of St John the Evangelist, Manthorpe is one of seven churches in the Deanery of Grantham, within the Diocese of Lincoln, which in turn is part of the Church of England in the Province of Canterbury in the United Kingdom - our Mother Church is the The Cathedral Church of the Blessed Virgin Mary of Lincoln.

The Church of St. John the Evangelist was built by the Rector of Belton in 1848. The area served by St. John's has a population of between 3,500 and 4,000. The old village of Manthorpe itself consists of some 40 houses on the edge of Belton Park (National Trust). The village is a conservation area.

St. John's is a small and attractive church, cheerfully decorated inside and maintained in very good order. The churchyard has been closed for burials and interments but the Garden of Remembrance continues.

Manthorpe was part of the Grantham Team Parish until 2003 but is now an independent Parish within the Grantham Deanery. It was linked with Grantham Hospital Chaplaincy until 2004.

We welcome all visitors to share with us in the beauty of our church, and to seek God in the stillness

Children are Welcome at St John's

Here at St John's we have a special welcome reserved for young people. We believe that children have the same needs as adults inasmuch as they are a worshipping community themselves.
We have a number of activities designed especially with children in mind, and several members of our church community devote themselves to their needs.
We have just launched a Competition for children to provide a design for a Children's leaflet - details of this can be found on this page.

What is there for Young People at St John's

  • Sunday Activity Sessions - at 10.30am every Sunday mornning. A time of fellowship for pre-schoolers and 5-7 year old youngsters where they learn all about God's love for them through story and craft activities.
  • Mums and Toddlers - at 2.00pm on a Wednesday once a month, except August (check the weekly News Sheet for dates - usually the last Wednesday of the month). Mums and their little ones are invited to come along and share in fun for the little ones and refreshment and chat for mums and carers.
  • After School Club - following on from the 'Mums and Toddlers' at 3.30pm is this *NEW* session for 5 to 7 year old youngsters in which they also learn through craft and activities about God's love for them.
  • Regular Workshops - we hold regular "YOUNG PEOPLE'S WORKSHOPS" for children up to 7 years old - prior registration is usually required and there may be a small charge of £1 payable on the day. A Workshop Registration Form can be obtained from this link or from the Vicar, Rev'd John Bruce, on 567047.
